The Orchards Cottage Details

The Orchards cottage has been refurbished and completely redecorated by the present owners in 2021 to provide luxury self-catering holiday accommodation for up to 8 in the attractive Northumberland village of Harbottle. The property is approached via an open stone porch with a heritage teal-blue part glazed front door. The front door opens onto beautiful, spacious, cottage-style accommodation which comprises the following:-

The Hall - has welcoming oak flooring with soft green panelling and a table with retro telephone and framed art prints of local sites of interest. It leads to…

The Lounge - a large sunny, dual-aspect room which has a stone fireplace and wood burning stove set in a feature wall of teal blue. The colour is echoed by, teal, cream and beige tartan curtains and the rest of the neutral walls are offset by the oak flooring, plentiful seating comprising quality sofa and armchairs, and other furniture including an antique bookcase containing books, puzzles and games. This lovely family-friendly room has French doors to the South overlooking the front patio, garden and views beyond.

The Kitchen - an exceptionally spacious room with windows overlooking the rear garden and woodland; it accommodates a central large, pine farmhouse table with 8 chairs for family meals with a feature light-fitting in rustic style over it. There is a characterful range and dresser, and plentiful cupboards with granite worktops, a hob, dishwasher, large fridge-freezer and sink. It is well appointed with cutlery, crockery and cooking utensils for those who enjoy cooking. It has rustic, country tiles behind the work tops and also on the floor.

The Utility Room is accessed from the kitchen and has appliances with washer and dryer and an adjacent separate toilet with sink. There is a stable door to access the rear garden and hooks for hanging coats.

The Dining Room - suitable for those special dining occasions, has an oak extending table and seating for 8, dresser, sideboard and stripped pine floor, high-level plate rack and a feature light and candlesticks. It is decorated in a pale touch of green with soft green skirting and plate rack.

The Garden Room, ideal for those quiet reflective moments, has a rustic tiled floor and is accessed through the dining room. It is very light and spacious with sofas and chairs seating 8 people, and has attractive blinds and views over the rear garden to the woodland. It features table lamps with wicker bases and an impressive leafy chandelier hanging among the rafters.

Bedroom 1 is decorated in a restful green echoing the views over the back garden and woodland. It is furnished with a rustic style wood bedroom suite including wardrobe and a king-size bedstead with a comfortable memory foam topped mattress and attractive country-style curtains featuring beehives and herbs. The en-suite shower room is fully tiled in grey-blue with shower, toilet and sink.

Bedroom 2 has views to the front garden and beyond and is furnished with a soft gold metal king-size bedstead, capacious fitted wardrobes with double mirror and an antique chest of drawers, wrought iron cream chandelier and bedside lamps, set off by attractive faux embroidery-style curtains featuring birds.

Bedroom 3 also faces south and comprises a ‘zip and link’ king-size bed, which can alternatively be arranged as two single beds. This bedroom is decorated in pale grey and has fitted cupboards with hanging space and shelving and has two country-style pine antique bedside tables for lamps, knick-knacks and personal effects. The blue on the tables is echoed by the cottage-style blue flowered curtains. A mirror and pictures of sea views completes the scene.

Bedroom 4 is arranged with solid oak bunk beds, a large fitted wardrobe with shelving and hanging rail, bedside cabinet, ‘scandi’ flat ceiling light, long mirror and is suitable for children or adults with attractive woodland themed curtains and a window facing onto the front garden. It has lively art prints of creatures which are to be found in the local environment in movement.

The large family bathroom has dark grey panelling and lighter grey tiling throughout with a panelled bath, toilet, sink, and shower cubicle.

All bedrooms are supplied with hotel-grade white stripe bedding and fluffy white towels plus tartan throws to echo the décor. There is a high chair and cot available on request plus 2 sets of bamboo children’s ware are included in the crockery.

At the front of the south facing property there are extensive lawns and mature trees and shrubs with a patio area outside the lounge and accessible by the French doors or front door. The front garden is bordered by a stone wall raised up from the quiet road, which leads down to Harbottle Castle manor house.

To the rear are further lawns bordered by a dark green painted fence and with a secure gate to the woodland area and bank. There are mature shrubs and trees and flowerbeds surrounding the property.

The rear garden has a patio area accessed from the garden room and utility area and it features a quality teak table and 8 chairs with parasol for gatherings outside. There is a barbeque for ‘al fresco’ meals.

To the right side of the cottage is the large double garage. This has been set up as a games room with tennis table and darts board. On the cottage wall beside the garage is a basket-ball net.
